Medical Lake Church Resumes Normal Services Six Months After Vandalism

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - After six months of repairs from an attack of vandalism last January, Lake City Assembly of God was finally able to have their church service back in the sanctuary Sunday.

It has been a long road to recovery for the both the church and Joe Knop, the man responsible for the destruction.

"We're so thrilled to be back in the sanctuary," Pastor Nick Hawkins said. "We've been out for nearly six months from the vandalism."

However, as things return to normal for the congregation, Joe Knop still has a long road ahead.

"The truth is, Joe doesn't remember much of what was going on, he was on methamphetamine" Hawkins said. "He doesn't remember much of the night, you know, he's struggling and he's struggling to walk out of that right now."

The cost of the damage was around $50,000, but what the church did not expect was the outpouring of support it received from the community. Members of Fairchild Air Force Base and others who do not even attend the church, volunteered their time to help with the repairs.
