Brazil says worried by report of NSA spying

PARATY, Brazil (AP) ? Brazil's foreign minister says is government his "seriously concerned" by a newspaper report that the United States has collected data on millions of telephone and email conversations in his country.

Antonio Patriota says his country has asked for clarification by way of the Brazilian ambassador in Washington and the U.S. ambassador in Brasilia.

He also said Sunday that Brazil will propose measures at the United Nations to create norms for protecting citizens around the world.

Brazil's O Globo newspaper reported that information released by NSA leaker Edward Snowden shows that the number of telephone and email messages logged by the U.S. National Security Agency in January alone was not far behind the 2.3 million reportedly collected in the United States.

U.S. officials had no immediate response.
