He's not getting anywhere near the attention he once was from the national media, but it's certainly not for lack of effort by Rick Perry.
The Texas governor, languishing in single digits in most polls after a fifth-place Iowa caucus finish, tore into President Barack Obama in today's Republican presidential debate on NBC's Meet the Press. Declared Perry: "We have a president who is a socialist."
Perry?spent much of Saturday?night's debate on ABC?out of the spotlight, but he did generate some heat when he said he "would send troops back into Iraq" if he becomes president, warning that the U.S. withdrawal after 10 years of combat will enable neighboring Iran to sweep into the country "at literally the speed of light." He called the withdrawal "a huge error for us" and assailed Obama for allowing it.
Perry said he deplored "the idea that we allow the Iranians to come back into Iraq and take over that country with all the treasure ... in blood and money that we've spent in Iraq because this president wants to kowtow to his liberal leftist base and move out those men and women." He said Obama should have renegotiated the timetable.
