The Cavaliers will bring in Jarrett Jack to add some pop to their bench next season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers filled out their backcourt Saturday by agreeing to a four-year, $25 million contract with free agent Jarrett Jack. First reported by Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group, the deal sends Jack to his sixth team in seven seasons.
For someone who spent years as a journeyman, Jack surely couldn't pass up a long-term commitment in free agency. While ESPN's Brian Windhorst says Cleveland will hold a team option for the final year of the deal, giving the Cavs some extra flexibility, it's a nice contract for someone who mostly came off the bench last season.
In Cleveland, Jack will presumably fill a role similar to the one he had coming off the bench with Golden State. As a point guard capable of scoring and running the offense, he can helm the team's second unit while giving Kyrie Irving some extra opportunities to play off the ball, similar to Stephen Curry last season.
During the 2012-13 season, Jack averaged 12.9 points, 5.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game as the sixth man for the Warriors. A durable player, he's appeared in at least 79 games in every full season during his eight-year career.
