Cleanup continues at Pennsylvania asbestos dumping site ...

Side by side with a reservoir and former park and playground is a Pennsylvania site where asbestos had been dumped for a number of decades. According to the EPA, the site was used for such dumping for nearly 60 years.

A stream bank and the reservoir apparently were considered extremely contaminated with asbestos. Efforts have been made to stabilize the area by various costly cleanup procedures. Procedures are continuing to prevent further asbestos exposure that may lead to asbestos-related diseases.

In the meantime, risk assessments will continue into the future. A final assessment cannot be made until all of the data analysis taken upon the site is complete.

Cleanup of asbestos require numerous stages before such areas are even habitable. The fear of asbestos exposure is not a small concern as such exposure can lead to asbestosis and mesothelioma - diseases that have no known cure.

Asbestosis is not a cancer (though it can be a precursor to cancer), but it is a breathing disorder that often causes scars to the lung. Mesothelioma involves cancerous tumors around the lining of the lung or in the abdominal cavity.

Attorneys cannot provide a cure for these diseases, but can assist individuals inflicted with these diseases receive compensation for their injuries. Such compensation is badly needed because such diseases can affect an individual's ability to earn wages, and will likely force families to expend a great deal in finances for medical treatment.

Unfortunately, even individuals working on the cleanup face exposure to asbestos if such a cleanup is not conducted properly. And it is not only people that work with the asbestos that are at risk. Family members of asbestos workers also face the dangers of exposure.
